something to shake (like egg shakers or rattles)
something to click together (rhythm sticks, drum sticks, wooden spoons, whatever!)
something to bang on (drum/tambourine, cowbell, pot or pan, tupperware, anything that makes noise)
and something to wave around (scarves, streamers, any lightweight fabric)
…or don’t, and just bring yourself! We’ll have fun either way.

Baby Rock with Craig Howe is a fun, innovative and nurturing way for your child (6 months - 3 years old) to learn the fundamentals of music from an experienced professional. This is so much more than a singalong. Every session utilizes an energetic mix of classic and contemporary children’s music, along with a generous portion of kid-friendly rock and roll, to demonstrate basic musical concepts and ideas, while allowing every child the freedom to express themselves through music. Using tools like shakers, rhythm sticks, scarves, drums, multiple musical instruments and more, we make rhythmic and tonal exercises playful and easy to understand - for both the babies/toddlers/preschoolers and the adults who love them.
Central to this program is the idea that all children can be musical - anyone can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and play an instrument - especially if the right education is provided at an early age, with the powerful role models of parents/caregivers actively making music, too. A rich musical environment like this also makes musical participation at home, with the family, easy and much more fun.
Craig has led Baby Rock classes in several countries and all over New York City. He is the owner and director of WSM.
Jazz Baby with Mariella Price:
Do you like to sing and dance? Have you ever heard of jazz music? Mariella from Jazz Baby will use the Great American Songbook to expose children and their caregivers to jazz standards and popular music. Through repetition and play, children will explore different rhythms and strengthen motor skills and sensory enhancement, all while bonding with their caregiver!
Mariella has been featured on Sesame Street, as well as Elmo's Music Magic DVD. She is a soulful and charismatic vocalist, and one of New York City's most sought-after performers. In addition to her versatile voice, she is an award-winning songwriter. Her poignant lyrics and masterful songwriting have earned her accolades worldwide, including the 2008 Billboard World Songwriting Contest grand prize, and an honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She is also the co-creator of one of NYC’s longest running and critically acclaimed hip-hop jam sessions, Freestyle Mondays.
